In the movie True Grit 14-year old Mattie, played by Hailee Steinfeld, shows how serious and determined she is to find her father at 1:15. Mattie sees her “partner” Rooster, played by Jeff Bridges, across the river already starting on the expition into the Indian territory with another man. She herself wants to be the one to find her fathers murderer and have revenge on him though. Mattie asks to be taken across the river and when she is denied and lead back to town she grabs and apple and throws it at the back of the mans head and takes off with her horse towards the river as they leap into the water to swim across. Instead of just letting Rooster an old U.S. Marshel that she payed to help find her father shows how serious she is by refusing to go back home, threatening him that if she is to turn back at the moment she will acuse Rooster of theft for stealing ten dollars from her. As the other man spanks Mattie on the ground Rooster shows his true colors by pulling out his gun on the other man to have him back away. Mattie now gets to carry on the journey into the Indian territory to seek revenge on her fathers murderer.

Realism, Antirealism, and Verisimilitude
Realism, antirealism, and verisimilitude is used in many films. Realism reflects life and wants the veiwers of the film to feel like it happens in every day life. Films using realism are going to try to depict things how they actualy are like a mother going through labor and how difficult it is for her. Antirealism is abstract and focuses in on a veiw making a point stand out. It does not reflect what would happen on a daily basis for instance in the movie “Avatar” it is not realistic to change a human to a creature. Some films use both realism and antirealism. Along with realism and antirealism is verisimilitude. Verisimilitude is a way to convince the viewers that something is real. For example in the movie “Honey I shrunk the Kids” It seams beleivable to the audiance that the kids actualy did shrink and everything is huge to them.
Each different movie in the same genre have many connections. Gangster movies are usualy shot in an area that looks unwealthy and dangerous. Most gangster movies are about territory or drugs. The characters as well fallow along with the genre of “gangster.” Though stereotypical it’s true, majority of the characters are African American all together creating a gangster setting.

I can relate to this article because I myself used to play hockey. I started when I was young and played for about six years but when I got to my sophomore year of high school I gave up to start working. Every time I hear about hockey I miss it; I also love the sound of skates cutting the ice and how fast you feel sprinting across the rink. Hockey is a great sport and I wish I had the time and money to pick up that sport again.
